Promoting Equality and Respect

The Sikh Australian Support for Family Violence Inc. (SASFV) is dedicated to raising awareness of the realities of family violence in the Australian Sikh community and cross cultural communities.

Sikh Australian Support for
Family Violence (SASFV)

SASFV is an organisation comprised of professional men and women including psychologists, social workers, barristers, solicitors, doctors and teachers. We work closely with local council and welfare organisations, mainstream service providers as well as the Police and the Sikh institutions (Gurduaras) to actively promote awareness through community education at the primary and secondary prevention levels.

Help is Available!

SASFV runs a confidential telephone support line and website providing information and referrals to members of our community who reach out for help and understanding without the fear of repercussions.

Jasbir Singh Suropada – Sikh faith perspectives on equality and respect

International Women’s Day 2018

The Sikh Australian Support for Family Violence (SASFV) was honoured to attend the International Womens Day Luncheon at the Southern Migrant and Refugee Centre at Dandenong on 8 March 2018. The speakers were just awesome and inspirational in their presentations and stories of their journeys. Great and Empowering.

Development of Multifaith Resources

The Sikh Australian Support for Family Violence participated in the development of the multi faith resource for faith and spiritual leaders, ‘Promoting Equality and Respect: An Interfaith Collaboration on Preventing Family Violence’ to prevent family violence in faith communities. The resource was developed by the City of Greater Dandenong in partnership with The Interfaith Network and was launched at the Dandenong Council Chambers.
SASFV representative Mr Jasbir Singh Suropadda joined faith leaders from Christian, Muslim, Bahai, Hindu, Jewish communities to address the audience and acknowledge the achievement of what was the culmination of extensive collaboration to create the multifaith resource for faith leaders across Victoria. The aim of the resource is to become a tool for faith and spiritual leaders to have discussions about family violence and enable them to assist in preventing family violence in their communities.
